Il teatro di Emergency: Pia e Damasco
Play produced by EMERGENCY NGO ONLUS and performed by Matteo Palazzo and Silvia Napoletano, directed and written by Patrizia Pasqui.
Against the backdrop of the Tuscan pine forest of Tombolo, the love story between Pia and Damasco turns into a lucid reflection on the consequences of wars of every era.
It's 1947 and the war in Italy is over. A part of the population takes refuge in the pine forest of Tombolo, between Pisa and Livorno, and tries to profit from the conditions caused by the war. Pia is a sex-worker, she talks from the hospital where she was hospitalized for venereal diseases. She tells about the world of Tombolo and about the tragedy of those women who, driven by poverty, keep company to the American soldiers. Damasco is a mine raker. Even if the war is over, Italy is littered with mines and the Americans leave it to the Italians to demine it. Damasco meets Pia at the hospital and falls in love with her at first sight. He goes back to look for her - and it will not be easy for him to find her - determined to express his love for her.
